What are Assets? There are 40 Developmental Assets which have been identified by the Search Institute in Minnesota as critical to the successful development of teenagers. These assets are divided into two groups of 20. There are external assets and internal assets. External assets are provided those positive people in the community, the family and the school who connect with youth in such a manner that youth benefit from that relationship. Internal assets are those values, such as honesty and integrity, which exist within youth which allow them to feel competent and good about themselves.
