How to Apply for Freshman Admission

Step 1: Submit an Application for Admission

To apply for admission, families can click here to create an online portal account and submit an online Application for Admission. There is no application fee.

Early Admission Deadline: October 1 (Click here to learn more!)
Regular Admission Deadline: December 15

Step 2: Complete Additional Checklist Items

After the Enrollment Management Office has processed your Application for Admission, you will be be able to access your application checklist. Below is a list of required items, along with due dates for Early Admission and for Regular Admission.

  • A copy of the student's 7th grade report card and most recent 8th grade report card

    Early Admission—by October 1
    Regular Admission—by December 15

  • A copy of the student's 7th grade ISTEP results (or comparable testing if the student's school does not administer ISTEP)

    Early Admission—by October 1
    Regular Admission—by December 15

  • At least two (2) recommendations, which are done electronically, from the student's current teachers, counselor, and/or principal

    Early Admission—by October 31
    Regular Admission—by January 15

Step 3: Submit Placement Test Results

Each applicant must provide results from the High School Placement Test (no later than October 31 for Early Admission candidates). These results can be from Cathedral's High School Placement Test Summer Academy, from our October 13 High School Placement Test date, or results from a High School Placement Test (HSPT) taken at another school.

Please note that results from the spring High School Placement Test taken at Bishop Chatard High School are not considered valid placement test results for admission to Cathedral High School and/or for consideration for merit scholarships at Cathedral High School, as these scores are percentiles that are normed against 7th grade norms instead of 8th grade norms.

Step 4: Complete an Interview

Each applicant for admission to Cathedral High School must complete an interview. The Enrollment Management Office will email each Early Admission candidate's family about scheduling this interview immediately following each application deadline. Interviews will take place on the following dates:

Early Admission—Sunday, October 14
Regular Admission—Sunday, January 13

Step 5: Receive an Admissions Decision

The Enrollment Management Office will send admissions decisions to Early Admission candidates the week of Thanksgiving. Regular Admission decisions will be sent on February 1.

Step 6: Enroll and Join the Class of 2023 at Cathedral!

Each student admitted to Cathedral High School has until March 1 to finalize enrollment, although families certainly can enroll much more quickly and officially join the Class of 2023!
