IHSFA State Speech Tournament

It was a great day for the Irish Speech on Saturday, March 15th. We finished in the top 10 for the 3rd year in a row by claiming 7th place team sweepstakes for our division. Congratulations who all those who advanced to state and competed. This was the largest team we've brought to the state tournament to date. We had a number of students who advanced to the Semi-Final rounds in their events which earned Cathedral their sweepstakes points:

Hoosier Crossroads NFL District Speech Tournament

The Cathedral Irish Speech Team won 1st place in team sweepstakes at the Hoosier Crossroads NFL District Speech Tournament on Saturday, March 8th. Cathedral will be sending 4 competitors to represent Indiana in 3 events at the National Forensics League National Tournament in Overland Park, Kansas in June. Tournament highlights include these National Qualifiers: Nathan Gray who is the event champion in International Extemporaneous, the team of Chris Fitzgerald & Julia White who are event runners-up in Memorized Duo Interpretation, and Jimmy Kacius who is event runner-up in Humorous Interpretation. In addition, Cathedral had 6 other finalists and 2 semi-finalists who all brought in points for the team.

Congratulations to our Speaker of the Week, Caroline Berlage, for speaking 11 rounds by competiting in 2 events and advancing to the finals in both! Super performance, Caroline!

IHSFA Section 6 Sectional at Brebeuf

The Cathedral Irish Speech Team won 1st place in team sweepstakes at their sectional, improving on last year's second place finish. The team is taking 25 entries to the state tournament on March 15th. The Irish won the sectional in convincing fashion with 139 team sweepstakes points over the second place finishers who scored 98. First place finishers include Danny Getz in US Extemporaneous Speaking, LJ Martin in Humorous Interpretation, and Michaela Ivory in Poetry Reading. Congratulations to all of our outstanding speakers for their hard work and commitment. Best wishes at State!

Columbus East Invitational Speech Tournament

The Cathedral Irish Speech Team finished their 2014 regular season with a sweepstakes victory at Columbus East High School on Saturday, February 22nd. Through a combination of outstanding individual performances as well as break-through performances in critical events, the team finished ahead of Noblesville High School for the first time this season.

Decatur Central Flash Forensics Meet

In their toughest test of the season, the Cathedral Irish Speech team took 3rd overall in sweepstakes at the Decatur Central Flash Forensics tournament. The team is closing the gap with the largest schools in the area as they move into the last regular season meet at Columbus East High School on February 22nd. Elicia Bates is our Speaker of the Week with her break through performance in Poetry. Great job, Elicia!

IUPUC/Ivy Tech Columbus Invitational

The Cathedral Irish Speech Team traveled to the Columbus Indiana campus of IUPUC/Ivy Tech to complete in the 2nd Annual IUPUC/Ivy Tech Columbus Invitational. The team took home the first place sweepstakes trophy. Meghan Garriott is the speaker of the week for volunteering to share her suit jacket Zoe Walker. That was one well travelled jacket, going 16 rounds for the day, 12 rounds Zoe and 4 rounds with Meghan!

Congratulations to all of the participants in this year's Cathedral Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Speech Invitational. With 13 schools and over 400 entries, it was a great day of competition. Congratulations to St. Jude's Catholic School for taking home the 1st place team trophy.

Ben Davis Giant Speakers Invitational, January 11th, 2014

Congratulations to the Irish Speech Team for taking 5th place in an extremely competitive and intense speech meet at Ben Davis High School. The meet had 19 schools and included several of the top teams in the state who brought over 50 entries each. Way to go, team! Our Speakers of the Week are Jidell Rendon and Taylor Browning for extra work and determination taking a new Duo piece and claiming a 1 in a round in their first outing! Keep up the great work!

Greensburg High School Speech and Congress Meet. November 23rd, 2013

Congratulations to the Irish Speech Team who traveled to Greensburg High School and brought home 3rd place in overall sweepstakes. Though a large number of key varisty speakers were unable to compete due to a conflict, the team fielded 14 speakers who brought home 15 ribbons. Caroline Berlage, Zoe Walker, Teresa Heckman, Erin Tupman and LJ Martin all brought home awards in two categories. This week's Speakers of the Week is Maggie Bielski for changing to a Prose piece with less than 48 hours before her first outing in that category. Super attitude, "whatever it takes, Mrs. Malone."

Fishers Forensic Festival 2013. November 2nd, 2013

On their first outting of the 2013-2014 Speech Season, the Cathedral Irish Speech Team competed at one of the largest meets of the season with 35 schools competing. Zoe Walker took home the event championship in Prose scoring a picket fence with 1st place finishes in each of her 4 rounds. The "Speaker of the Week" is Christopher Bessler who had to compete in his first meet of his career without his electronic clippings file in International Extemp, showing grace in his perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds!
