Lumen Accreditation

Cathedral High School has been granted the status of “Accredited” by The Catholic University of America (CUA) through the Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education (ITCE) and its Lumen Accreditation program.

The Lumen Accreditation process consists of a six-year cycle of renewal. Phases throughout the process advance and promote the distinctive excellence of K-12 Catholic school education while accompanying Catholic school communities as they strive for continuous growth in fulfilling their missions spiritually, intellectually, culturally, and operationally.

“We are thrilled and humbly honored to be one of the first schools to be accredited through the Lumen program at The Catholic University of America,” said Cathedral President Rob Bridges, PhD. “For 106 years, Cathedral has led the way in Catholic education, and this accreditation is a sure sign that we are continuing to do so.”

The official accreditation status follows the completion of an onsite visit by a team of representatives from CUA and other experts from the field of Catholic education. The onsite visit team reviewed school data, observed the school community and classrooms, conducted community interviews, and provided recommendations for growth and mission fulfillment.

“The Lumen Accreditation program is value-added for us, primarily because it is mission-based. Any Catholic school that really believes in its mission will be well-served by Lumen Accreditation,” said Dr. Bridges.

Cathedral High School undertook extensive preparation to achieve accredited status, inclusive of data collection and analysis, constituent surveys, a discernment process examining Church teachings about Catholic education, as well as a thorough review of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools.

Lumen Accreditation is currently active in nine states, 13(Arch)Dioceses, and 292 schools.

Cathedral,a premier Catholic high school in the Holy Cross tradition, transforms the hearts and minds of a diverse group of students to have the competence to see and the courage to act. Cathedral is a four-time National Blue Ribbon Award recipient and serves more than 1,100 families in central Indiana.
