Relieving Food Insecurity at Cathedral
While we often talk about 35% of our student population receiving need-based financial aid, we sometimes neglect to share that approximately 70 of Cathedral's current students also receive a healthy breakfast and lunch, at no charge to them, each day. Food insecurity is a very real issue for some of our teens as well as the fear of stigma that comes with it.
Thanks to the generosity of Cathedral community, over $78,000 was raised for food insecurity for Cathedral students at ShamrAuction! In light of events (loss of income, sickness, absence from work) associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we've extended our goal to $120,000 as we want to make sure that all our students have access to healthy meal options while campus is closed.
Because of Cathedral donors, the Cathedral High School transportation department, and various staff and volunteers, we've hand-delivered 75+ grocery gift cards to each and every one of our families who receive a free breakfast/lunch at Cathedral! And, with the recent announcement of school remaining closed for the remainder of the school year, plans are in place to conduct another distribution. #ourmissioncontinues
