Tuition Assistance

Each year through the generosity of alumni, parents, students and friends, Cathedral is able to offer tuition assistance to students who might not otherwise be able to afford private education. In fact, Cathedral has awarded approximately $2.8 million in tuition assistance during the 2019-2020 school year. If you are hesitant to consider Cathedral for financial reasons, we strongly encourage you to apply for tuition assistance, as such assistance has made Cathedral a reality for many families!

Application Procedures: Incoming Freshmen

Step 1: Apply for Tuition Assistance

Families apply for tuition assistance through FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment. Click here to apply for tuition assistance through FACTS. If you need to know it for any reason, our Institution ID with FACTS is 17006.

  • Optional Early Deadline (October 15) for Freshman Early Admission Applicants—Families applying via the Early Admission process who wish to receive a tentative (estimated) tuition assistance award at the time of Early Admission acceptance must apply for tuition assistance by October 15. Families not meeting this deadline but who meet the later deadline of December 15 will receive their tuition assistance award by March, at the same time as returning families.
  • Regular Deadline (December 15)

In the case of parents who are separated or divorced, Cathedral requires that both households complete the application process outlined above. Please note that a household includes parents, guardians, and/or stepparents as applicable.

Step 2: Provide Tax Documentation

Families applying for tuition assistance must also submit to FACTS a copy of all supporting tax documentation such as the following:

  • Copies of the most recent Federal tax forms including all supporting tax schedules
  • Copies of the most recent W-2 forms for each parent/guardian in the household
  • Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security income, welfare, child support, food stamps, workers' compensation, and/or TANF, if applicable

Families submit this documentation directly to FACTS and not to Cathedral High School.

Please note that families applying for tuition assistance for 2020-2021 will submit tax documentation for 2018 (not 2019).

Step 3: Receive Award Notification

Students applying for freshman admission and who apply for tuition assistance by the deadlines shared above will receive a tentative tuition assistance award at the time the admission decision is mailed to the family. Changes in circumstances, inaccurate income/asset information, and/or budgetary constraints could result in a final award that varies from this tentative award, but this process will allow families to have additional financial information about Cathedral at the time of making an enrollment decision.

Other Tuition Assistance

Merit Scholarships

Cathedral offers two merit scholarships to students applying for freshman admission based upon the composite score (national percentile) on the STS High School Placement Test. Students scoring at the 98th or 99th percentile composite earn a Presidential Scholarship valued at $12,000 ($3,000 per year). Students scoring at the 96th or 97th percentile composite earn a Cathedral Scholarship valued at $6,000 ($1,500 per year). Presidential Scholarships and Cathedral Scholarships are renewable each year, as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and enrolls in courses at the Honors level or higher when courses are offered at such a level.

Presidential Scholars and Cathedral Scholars receive priority consideration for admission to Cathedral, provided they have completed all requirements for application for admission and provided they are in good academic and behavioral standing in their schools.

Cathedral will accept STS High School Placement Test scores for tests taken at other high schools, including those taken as part of a practice exam, as long as the score report is sent directly to the Enrollment Management Office at Cathedral from the school that administered such a test and provided that the test is scored using norms for 8th graders. Please note that spring practice tests from Bishop Chatard High School use 7th grade norms and thus are not valid for the admission process or for merit scholarship consideration.

Cathedral / Center for Leadership Development Scholarships

Cathedral High School, in partnership with the Center for Leadership Development (CLD), solicits applications for scholarships exclusively available to students who are candidates for freshman admission and who have completed either Precious Miss or Project MR at CLD. Cathedral awards at least two (2) scholarships, each valued at a minimum of 50 percent of tuition (renewable annually), per incoming freshman class to selected students. Click here to download the Cathedral/Center for Leadership Development Scholarship Application.

The nominated student must be a candidate for freshman admission whose family is considered "middle income" and who meets other scholarship criteria as outlined by the Russell and Pennyu Fortune Foundation. The Russell and Penny Fortune Foundation Scholarship is valued at the full amount of the recipient's freshman tuition and is renewable, at that same amount of tuition, in subsequent years.

Families cannot apply for this scholarship. Cathedral High School staff reviews the pool of 8th graders who have applied for freshman admission for the following year and, by December 1, nominates a selected student. Interested families can contact Duane Emery, Financial Aid Director, at (317) 968-7360 or demery@gocathedral.com  for additional information.
