Why Cathedral?

Lucy Hershman '29
I love Cathedral! I have grown in my faith and relationship with God, we pray before every class and everywhere I go there are symbols of our faith. I feel so welcomed here. When I am stuck on something or need help both peers and teachers are always there to support me. I have learned new things and become more confident in and out of class. I have joined clubs and sports that I would not have done before, for example the International food club, there is something for everyone! I love how we pray through the day like in the morning, before class, lunch, and at the end of the day. We are all a big family. Our main Holy Cross Value of the year is excellence and I believe that Cathedral really pushes the students to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. That is why I love Cathedral.

During my time at Cathedral, I have loved the incredible opportunities I have had to serve the greater community. From taking service trips to Kenya and Costa Rica, participating in National Honor Society, and creating my St. Andre Project, I have gotten to experience how Cathedral values service, and I, myself, have found a heart for service. I also love how connected the Cathedral community is. When I came here, I was told that this was a special place, and it truly is. Cathedral is a family that values each individual, and I am so proud to be a part of that.

When you’re a teenager, you think you know everything about everything, but once you get a little older, you realize that you really don’t know much about life between the ages of 14 and 18. Cathedral was a safe space to grow up in.

Cathedral has opened me to a community that constantly strives for excellence, and that has made me reach places beyond my goals. This school has taught me to not place a limit on what I can achieve and to take advantage of my opportunities!

I am so grateful for AP Seminar teacher, Mr. Jake Huhn. He encourages curiosity and critical thinking, two core parts of schooling that I think are too often forgotten about. He is an exceptional teacher and loved by all of his students. He makes the material interesting and gets kids actively engaged in learning.

(My Cathedral) foundation continues to guide the way I lead today with patience, humility, and a commitment to developing those entrusted to me. My time at Cathedral immersed me in a community where faith shaped how we valued one another and understood responsibility.
