The IB Diploma

IB program description

The IB Diploma Candidate fulfills each element of this diagram.  The requirements are as follows:

  • Students must take a minimum of three Higher Level courses (though no more than 4) over the course of two years.  In order to earn the diploma, students must earn a collective score of 12 points from HL classes; the point range for each individual class is 1-7.
  • The remaining courses (two or three) must be Standard Lever courses.  At minimum one SL course must cover a two-year span.  The majority of IB Science classes span two years.  Acquisition of points from these courses is then combined with the HL points.
  • A student must earn a total of 24 points to earn the diploma.
  • Students must take a Theory of Knowledge course over two years and earn a D or better on the IB scale – A, B, C, D, E
