The Freshmen “Lughnasa” (a word in Gaelic meaning festival, to celebrate a new harvest) started in 2019. This is a special event that will help immerse the incoming freshmen into our Holy Cross Values, the Cathedral Way, and many traditions.  It is also a time in which students will have the opportunity to begin building connections with their classmates as well as their peer mentors.  This is a very important event, and required for all Freshmen!

  • 2:30 p.m.- Mass for Freshmen and parents

  • 3:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.- Freshmen remain on campus for a great time!  Parents will be dismissed following Mass.

  • 8:45 p.m. - Parents return for quick closing and student pick-up. Parents should park in main Kelly Hall / Welch Activity Center lot or near Loretto Hall and gather in the courtyard. If inclement weather, please enter door 4 to the Welch Activity Center.

Pick up will take place after a short gathering at 9:00 p.m.

What supplies do I need?

Students only need a backpack and iPad to begin the school year.  It may be helpful to bring along a notebook and writing utensils as well. Teachers will share more information regarding specific supplies they will need for their classrooms.

What books do I need?

Just like supplies, teachers will share what books students will need and will have time to order these the first week of school. Many families order textbooks online (through Amazon or other sites) or purchase at a bookstore.
