November Holy Cross Student/Educator of the Month

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, we thank our Holy Cross Student and Educator of the Month for leaving out our values with zeal!

This month’s value is “Option for the Poor” and is an opportunity to celebrate educators and students who see, recognize, and uplift those around them who may feel less than whole, whether through financial/material, spiritual, cultural, or other forms of poverty.

The Holy Cross Student of the Month is Mark Ugo. His nominators said: Mark Ugo ‘25 unselfishly shares his time with anyone who needs it. Whether helping his classmates with their schoolwork, picking up extra service responsibilities because help is needed, or sharing a kind word when it seems someone is struggling, Mark is always ready to give. We are all “poor” in some way, and Mark has an uncanny ability to build us up where we need it. Another nominator added, “I witnessed Mark helping a teacher during retreat without being asked.”

The Educator of the Month is Lisa Ford. Her nominators said: “Lisa Ford is one who doesn’t pick and choose what students to help or serve, as she serves literally anyone who has ever asked for help. No matter their background, family, status in the school, effort in class, or any other aspect that might cause a pre-existing prejudice to occur. She’s phenomenal as a role model for all educators and embodies the Franciscan motto of “preach the Gospel at all times, when necessary, use words.” Lisa is always willing to help others and recently came up with a way for her NHS students to help with our Toy Drive. She truly has a servant’s heart.

Congratulations to Mark Ugo ‘25 and Mrs. Ford!
