We are pleased to announce Julie Barthel as the new principal of Cathedral High School. She comes to us from North Central High School, where she has served as assistant principal since 2015.

Julie Barthel is well known to the Cathedral community. She served as an educator at Cathedral from 2002-2015, including as vice principal for curriculum and instruction. Her husband, Tim Barthel, has served on the Cathedral football coaching staff for 12 years. Her sons are Cathedral graduates, Connor Barthel ’11 and Collin Barthel ’14. Her daughter, Caiti Barthel, is a member of the Class of 2023.

“Blessed Basil Moreau shared, ‘With eyes of faith, consider the greatness of your mission and the wonderful amount of good which you can accomplish.’ I am honored to take on the prestigious position as principal of Cathedral High School and will lead with ‘eyes of faith’ to help Cathedral achieve its mission and vision to be the premier Catholic high school of the future,” says Barthel. “We are blessed to continue to be a part of the amazing Cathedral family.”

“We were searching for a principal who is strong in their faith and passionate about student-centered collaborative teaching and learning,” says Cathedral President Rob Bridges. “We are blessed to have Julie Barthel return to Cathedral at just the right time to help us fulfill our mission and vision.”

Barthel received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina, where she also played Division I volleyball. She earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Butler University. Barthel and her family are parishioners at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church.

As we announced in November, Dave Worland, Cathedral's principal for 17 years, is our new senior vice president for mission and advancement.

Barthel's first day on the job will be later this month. Please join us in welcoming her (back) to Cathedral High School!
