Brother Roy Smith '61 Receives Bishop Chartrand Award

Cathedral is honored to announce that Brother Roy Smith '61 has been awarded the Bishop Chatrand Award! The Bishop Chartrand Award is the highest honor given by Cathedral High School. The award is named after the Bishop of Indianapolis when Cathedral opened her doors on September 13, 1918.

Brother Roy’s Cathedral journey began in 1957. He was class Vice President for four years and was a star athlete. He excelled in football, basketball, and track. And he was as humble as he was talented. Brother Roy turned down a four-year football scholarship to the University of Louisville, and instead enrolled at St. Edward’s University, a Holy Cross university in Austin, Texas, to study History and English. He’s been a social worker, a civil rights champion, and is currently the Development Director for the Midwest Province of Holy Cross.
