Principal's Message

Dear Cathedral Parents and Guardians,

As the fall semester whines down and we draw closer to Christmas break, I want you to know how proud I am of what we've accomplished in the past few months. Cathedral students have excelled in the classroom, on the stage, on the field, and the court. Our students shine in speech and debate, choir, band, orchestra, theater, community service, and art. Our educators inspire our students to challenge themselves in the classroom, leading our students to uncover their God-given talents and gifts. Having a front-row seat to the transformation within our students is a blessing. I am grateful for our innovative educators who lead the way, and I am thankful to all of you for being a partner in the process.

Finals week begins Monday, December 16. Please click here for the review schedule and the schedule for the remainder of finals week. Please note the early dismissal times. Also, make sure your student is caught up on homework assignments. Educators are offering additional office hours from 2:15 - 3:00 p.m. on December 17, 18, and 19. If your student needs help in a class, please encourage your student to attend office hours. Our educators want to ensure your student is successful.

Also, it is imperative that students arrive at school with a fully charged iPad. A good habit is for students to charge their iPad each night before bedtime. If you're still looking for stocking stuffers for your student, you might consider charging cords and blocks. It's helpful if students put their names on all of their tech items in case they get misplaced.

Please click here for this month's Counseling Update. This month's update includes information on resources we'll have available for students to receive social/emotional support during finals. There is also a section that outlines what colleges are looking for when they view a student's high school transcript.

Please be sure to read the entire newsletter each week. In the Current News Section, you'll find important information about financial aid for the 2025/26 school year, how to purchase a yearbook ad for your Senior, opportunities to assist with ShamrAuction, and much more. Also, feel free to click here for our Mission Integration Officer's December message.

Thank you to everyone who donated toys for our North Carolina Toy Drive. Dr. Bridges, Brother Matt, and Cathedral parents Joe Haley and Andrew Spencer delivered the toys to Immaculata Catholic School and Asheville Catholic School yesterday. The communities, both reeling from the impact of Hurricane Helene, are so grateful. Also, thank you to everyone who helped make our second Christmas On the Hill such a huge success this week! Cathedral provided Christmas joy to more than 300 students from Enlace Academy. God is good!

We will send an abbreviated newsletter next week. In the meantime, please know that I wish you and your family a blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas! We pray together as a Cathedral family each day on the Hill, and I hope you know I'll be praying for all of you during Christmas break.

"And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord." - Luke 2:10-11.

God bless, and Go Irish!

Answering The Call To Greatness!

We are excited to share that Cole Watson's artwork, entitled "Resilient", was selected for inclusion in the exhibition "Universal Beauty" at Newfields Museum of Art. Cole is one of only twelve students included in the exhibition. His selection is a recognition of not only Cole's creativity but also the outstanding quality of his work. Cole is a junior at Cathedral.

Please Pray

  • For Melanie Lohr Miller of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in her fight against Triple Negative Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Please pray that she gets “pathological complete response” to chemotherapy and that she will never have recurrence.
  • For those suffering this holiday season, whether it be physically, emotionally, or spirtually. May the promise of this Advent season fill them with peace and hope.
  • For Ms. Pivonka, may she be filled with comfort as she goes through her illness and may she never lose faith in God's power to heal.
  • For the healing  and comfort of football coach, Tony Salati, as he battles brain cancer. May he be comforted by God's presence and power to heal.
