Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

If you’re reading this on Thursday, I wish you all the best as we enter the most sacred time of the Church year, the Easter Triduum. I extend my prayers and best wishes to you and your loved ones for a blessed and meaningful Holy Week and Easter.

Holy Week invites us into the heart of our Catholic Christian faith—a journey through Christ’s passion, death, and glorious Resurrection. It is a powerful opportunity to reflect, pray, and renew our commitment to walk more closely with Jesus.

To help our students and families fully engage with this sacred time, as usual, Cathedral High School will be closed on Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21). These days are more than just a break from academics and school activities; they are moments of grace. They are times that can help us fully appreciate God’s love and His plan for our salvation. We have the opportunity to walk with Jesus in real-time, from the first Eucharist during the Last Supper to the Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross, and His Crucifixion.

On Good Friday, I encourage you to set aside time as a family to attend the Passion liturgy at your parish, participate in Stations of the Cross, or simply observe quiet between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.—the time Jesus was on the Cross and the hour of His death. A family prayer or scripture reading can be a beautiful way to invite Christ into your home and hearts on this solemn day. My family’s tradition has long included a Cross walk through the streets of Cincinnati followed by services at Holy Spirit Immaculata parish on Mt. Adams.

Holy Saturday is dedicated to waiting, quietly reflecting, family traditions, and, of course, the Easter Vigil at sunset, what many believe is the holiest Mass of the year.

Easter Sunday, of course, is a time of joy and celebration! As you gather for Mass and family meals, may the risen Christ fill your homes with peace, hope, and renewal.

Easter Monday provides a rare opportunity for a restful pause after the celebrations of Easter Sunday. Consider using this day to spend quality time together—perhaps through a family walk, prayer, or service to others in the spirit of the Resurrection.

At Cathedral, we are grateful to partner with you in nurturing students who not only grow in knowledge but also in faith and virtue. May this Holy Week be a time of grace for your family, and may the joy of Easter remain in your hearts throughout the Octave of Easter and beyond.

Also, to the parents of our Seniors, please be sure to read the Senior Info Section of the website and check back frequently. The website has important information about the Senior Class Mass on April 25th, Baccalaureate, and Commencement.

God bless,
Mark Matthews
