Principal's Message

Dear Cathedral Parents and Guardians,

The Parent Newsletter allows us to communicate important information, but communication isn't just about providing information. Communication is also about listening, and we want to hear from you. Please take five minutes to complete this two-question survey. We want to know how likely you are to recommend Cathedral to another family and why or why not. Your answers will help us ensure we're fulfilling our Mission and in what ways we can improve. The survey is anonymous, but you may leave your contact information in the comment section if you want someone to contact you. We appreciate your help!

We hope to see many of you at our Career + Pathways meeting tonight.  As we shared earlier, this innovative program is designed to prepare freshmen-juniors for their future careers by connecting their education to real-world opportunities and hands-on experiences. In addition, this program could potentially grant them access to $5,000 a year for their post-secondary education. Again, the meeting is tonight, Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m. in the Student Life Center.

The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to all of us at Cathedral. To that end, please know that if your student arrives late to campus or leaves early, they must check in with Mrs. McGruder at the attendance desk. Even though students have a pass, they must stop by the attendance desk either before heading to class late or before leaving campus early. Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring we know our students' whereabouts during the school day.

The Fighting Irish Varsity football will play Lawrence North at Lawrence North on Friday, November 8, at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship. This is an IHSAA Tournament game, and student passes are not valid. Click here to purchase tickets. Please note that tickets should be purchased in advance. You cannot pay cash for tickets at the gate but can use your credit card. Go Irish!

We are excited to welcome Olympic Champion Cole Hocker '19 to Cathedral on Tuesday, November 12. The assembly will be from 1:40 to 2:25 p.m. in the Welch Activity Center. If you'd like to attend, please make sure you check in at door #4 and have your ID. We are so proud of Cole and can't wait to celebrate his Olympic success!

As a Catholic school in the Holy Cross tradition, Community Service plays a vital role in the Cathedral experience. We are proud to once again partner with various Catholic outreach agencies, local food pantries, and our own St. Nick's Nook (Cathedral's community food pantry) for our Canned Food Drive on November 13-15. Students are to drop off items in the Welch Activity Center lobby from 7:45-8:25 a.m. on those dates. Items should be brought in bags/boxes that do not need to be returned. The following full-sized items have been requested:
-Canned vegetables (green beans, corn, yams, carrots, mixed vegetables)
-Canned fruit (peaches, pears, pineapple, fruit cocktail)
-Canned meats
-Canned pasta dinners (ravioli, spaghetti-o's, etc.)
-Caned soup (all varieties)
-Peanut Butter
-Boxed mashed potatoes
-Boxed stuffing mix
Note: No Ramen noodles, small cans of tomato paste, or small cans of tomato sauce will be accepted. A maximum of 24 boxes of macaroni and cheese to be contributed per student. The math department is offering incentives for donations. Students should ask their math teacher about the extra credit being given. Thank you in advance for blessing others in our community this holiday season!

Below are a few reminders for you.

  • Students signed up for their J-term this week. Please remember that if your student's J-term has a cost associated with it,  funds will automatically be charged to your student's FACTS account. Also, anyone doing an internship must return a permission form indicating where they are doing their internship. If your student is doing an internship, please be on the lookout for a separate email with the permission form and other important details.
  • You should have received the Counseling Newsletter on Sunday, November 3. In case you missed it, here is the link. The Counseling Newsletter is sent the first Sunday of each month.
  • Counselors are hosting College Application Work Sessions that seniors may attend during their resource, lunch, or before or after school in Room 4235. These sessions are designed for seniors to have a quiet place to work, ask follow-up questions, request scans of fully developed essays, and receive last looks before submitting applications. These sessions are not meant for in-depth meetings or first reviews of applications and essays. Students should schedule a meeting with their Counselor for more involved, longer sessions prior to the Work Sessions.
  • The new financial aid application process for the 2025-2026 season is open. You can follow the application procedures on our Cathedral website by clicking here.
  • Upcoming Cathedral counselor/parent sessions are as follows:

-November 11 - Coping with Anxiety - 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall

I invite all of you to read our Mission Integration Officer's November message here in which he talks about our Holy Cross Value of Option for the Poor and congratulates our Holy Cross Educator and Student for October, Gary Spurgin and Regina Jones '25!

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and a wonderful weekend!

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." - Romans 15:13

God bless, and Go Irish!
