Cathedral High School proudly celebrates 50 Years of Women at Cathedral—a milestone honoring the strength, faith, and achievements of generations of women who have shaped our community.

Founded in 1918 as an all-boys Catholic high school in Holy Cross tradition, Cathedral has long been rich in history and tradition. The first classes were held on the second floor of Cathedral Grade School at 13th and Pennsylvania, before the school moved to 14th and Meridian Streets in downtown Indianapolis

In 1976, Cathedral opened its doors to young women for the first time, officially making the school co-ed.

Now, five decades later, we celebrate the courage and brilliance of those first young women—and the thousands who have followed—who have enriched Cathedral through their excellence in academics, arts, athletics, service, and faith.

Our year-and-a-half celebration honors these trailblazers while inspiring today’s students to continue their legacy. With faith as our guide and the spirit of Holy Cross leading the way, we move confidently into the next 50 years.

With her leading, we shall not tire!

History

Beginning with the first female trailblazers who enrolled in the fall of 1976, we want to pay tribute to the achievements of the young women who followed in their footsteps, and to recognize all members of the Cathedral community who shaped the Cathedral family.
