How to Apply for Freshman Admission
Families of 8th grade students can click here to create an online portal account and submit an online Application for Admission. The deadline to submit the Application for Freshman Admission for the Class of 2021 is December 15, 2016. There is no application fee.
Step 2: Obtain Two Student Recommendations
Shortly after you submit the Application for Admission, you will complete various checklist items, including recommendations. You will be prompted to share the names and email addresses of two different teachers who will provide online recommendations. These teachers will receive an email that will allow them to submit this online recommendation. The following are examples of who can submit such recommendations:
- The student’s current teachers of an academic subject (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Theology, or World Language); or
- The student’s school guidance counselor; or
- The student’s school principal
Step 3: Submit Academic Records
In addition to the Cathedral Application for Admission, the student and family must submit the following materials via the student's online application checklist:
- A copy of 7th grade report card and most up-to-date 8th grade report card
- Additional educational evaluations and/or medical information, if applicable
- 7th grade ISTEP results
Step 4: Take the High School Placement Test
All students applying for freshman admission at Cathedral are required to take the STS High School Placement Test (8th grade students only).
If an 8th grader has documented needs for testing accommodations, please contact the Enrollment Management Office to discuss these needs and necessary documentation.
Cathedral High School does accept STS High School Placement Test results from other schools. In such cases, we must receive a score report directly from the school at which the student has taken the placement test. We will not accept results submitted directly by the family.
Step 5: Schedule Student/Family Interview
The Enrollment Management Office will schedule an interview for each applicant and his/her family. Interviews typically take place on Sundays in January. The interview allows us at Cathedral to get to know the applicant and his/her family. Additionally, it provides the applicant and family the opportunity to get to know Cathedral. After the interview, and after we have received all required materials, the applicant's file is complete and ready for review by the Admissions Committee.
Step 6: Acceptance Letters
All interviews will be completed by early February, and all information relevant to an applicant's file should be received no later than the end of January. We anticipate mailing decision letters near the middle of February. In order to finalize enrollment, families must submit an official online registration along with an enrollment deposit of $1,000 by mid-March.
